SISTERS OF THE IMITATION OF CHRIST
(SIC)

The congregation of the sisters of the imitation of Christ was founded by His Grace Mar Ivanios in 1925 in Jacobite Church. "Sanyasam", the idea of dedicated life for women was unknown till then in the Malankara church. With the founder the whole congregation 10 members of the community- reunited with the Catholic Church in 1930.Bethany, an active congregation lays emphasis on liturgical life, as a life of prayer and contemplation. The spiritual up-liftment of the Malankara church is the primary objective of the congregation. The congregation is growing rapidly. There are five provinces, Thiruvananthapuram, Thiruvalla, Bathery, Pathanamthitta and Muvattupuzha under one Mother General. The Genaralate is at Kottayam.

The Bathery province was inaugurated on the 25th of July 1980, in- accordance with the Charism of the founder of the SIC congregation in the province has worked towards in the building up and renewal of Syro- Malankara Church along with the diocese of Bathery. The province has at present 36 religious houses and 154 professed sisters.
