Foundress: Mother Petra Dinadassi

Dinasevanasabha was founded by Mother Petra, a German Ursuline Nun in 1969, at Pattuvam, Kerala, India, with an exclusive charism and mission for the poorest of the poor in the society. At the time of the untimely death of our beloved foundress in 1976, the community had already ventured into many areas of services for the liberation of the poor.

On 2 February 2003, the Holy See raised our Congregation to the status with Pontifical Right. Our congregation has officially erected three provinces and one vice province with effect from 1 June 2007 and DSS Amala Province is one of the provinces of DSS Congregation in the state of Kerala.

Today, we are a community with 540 sisters, extending our services to the poor in India and abroad. We play an active role in the pastoral, social, health and human resources development services of 34 dioceses of India. The main focus of our services is always the remote villages where the poor do not have any access to health services, educational and human development facilities and possibilities.

Dinasevanasabha has been serving in the Malankara Catholic Church since 1972 with the erection of Anandabhavan Convent at Kolithattu at the request of the Bishop of Tiruvalla. The Superior Generals of DSS were ready and willing to consider the requests of the Bishops to open the new convents of ours in different Parishes of the Malankara Catholic Church. And hence we extended our missionary activities to Bathery, S.Canara, Ettukuduka and Jellipara respectively.
