Shreyas is the official social organization of the Malankara Catholic Diocese of Bathery for development and justice. It is a registered society named SHREYAS working in the civil districts of Kasargod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram of Kerala State, Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu and Shimoga, Dakshina Kannada,Chikmangalore and Uduppi in Karnataka. Geographically the area is predominantly hilly consisting of the high lands of the Western Ghats, its foot hills and plains. The population is heterogeneous comprising of Hindus, Muslims, Christians and Tribal. Majority of the people are migrants from Central and Southern Kerala engaged in farming activities. The working area is divided into 10 regions and 100 units catering the needs of 45379 families through 2710 Community Based Organizations.

Mission and Vision

The noble mission of Shreyas is to create a more humane and just society based on human values, irrespective of religion, sex and colour.

Our vision is to become an excellent facilitating organization for social development through participatory approach.

Objectives

1. Formation and empowerment of people's organizations and local leadership

It aims at organizing and empowering the poor and the marginalized by making them critically aware of their life situation. It also envisaged institutionalizing the grass root structures so as to acquire competency for creating collaboration with Panchayath Raj Institutions through appropriate development approaches at their own level.

2. Promoting Decentralization and Institution Building process

It aims at strengthening of people's structure to undertake suitable roles relevant to the changing socio economic and political scenario. Empowering the grass root structures so as to attend autonomy in their development interventions is the main focus of this objective. Decentralization broadly bases on the linkages, net working and collaborations in development interventions.

3. Initiating people's movement

It is a process to bring about cultural transition through the evolution of collective behaviour, value system, awareness relationship, role clarity and approaches which are developmental. It is a liberative process through which the people attain power to manage their life situation and exercise socio-economic and political rights and duties in the collective and participatory manner.

4. Conservation of environment

The preservation of nature will ultimately help the survival and development of the human beings. For the preservation of life, preservation of nature is very important. Land, water and bio mass, the resource trinities should be taken care of for a better tomorrow. So it is necessary to take care of environment for the sustainable development of human being and nature.
