MALANKARA CATHOLIC YOUTH MOVEMENT
MCYM

"Pratheeksha" which means "Hope" is the centre for Youth Development of Catholic Diocese of Bathery . The Diocese has initiated this movement from 1979 onwards. This movement has been branched out to all the 123 parishes of Diocese of Bathery. The Geographical area is spread over in 5 northern civil districts of Kerala State,7 southern districts of Karnataka State and the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu State. Rev. Fr. Elias Karottumangalam was appointed appointed as the first Director of MCYM.  He could laid a strong foundation for the movement.  He took initiative to begin MCYM units in all the parishes and mission centres. 

The affiliation of MCYM to Kerala Catholic Youth Movement (KCYM) was an important stride in the growth of movement. The movement aims not only at the spiritual growth of the young people but also at the integral development of a person, taking care of various aspects of the society and remaining as a strong force in the society. It is worth mentioning that MCYM played a pivotal role in the socio-economic reconstruction of the society.

The movement has its own emblem and flag. The MCYM selects a special theme every year to make a deep study about it and to coordinate all the activities of the year basing on it. The MCYM arranges seminars, propagation rallies and corner meetings to react against the various social problems and to act according to the need of the day.

OBJECTIVES

1. Formation of value based young generation in the Church.
2. To facilitate the practice of faith life in the family, church and in the society through the youth
3. To empower the youth to undertake the catalytic role to bring about a just society based gospel values.
4. Organizing the youth to articulate responses against dehumanizing forces in the society.

FUNCTIONAL STRUCTURES
(Structural Arrangement )

1. The Director:A Priest appointed by the Bishop.

2. Diocesan Secretariat:
Director, President ,Vice president ,Secretary, Joint Secretaries and Treasurer, Total 8 nos.

3. Diocesan Syndicate:
All the members of the Diocesan Secretariat and Syndicate and all the regional presidents. Total 16 nos.

4. Diocesan Senate:
All the members of the Diocesan Secretariat, Syndicate and all the regional office bearers. Total 60 nos.

5. Regional Secretariat:
Regional Director, President, Vice President, Secretary, Joint Secretary and Treasurer. Total 6 nos.

6. Regional Syndicate:
All the members of the Regional secretariat and the parish level president .

7. Regional Senate:
All the members of the Regional Secretariat and the Unit/Parish Level Office bearers.

8. Unit /Parish MCYM office bearers:
Unit Director, President ,Vice- President , Secretary, Joint Secretary and Treasurer.

9. Unit /Parish General Body:
All the members of MCYM in the Parish
